Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a critical high-level meeting in Lahore on Saturday to assess and reinforce the country’s security framework amid escalating regional tensions. The session brought together key federal and provincial officials tasked with overseeing security operations, emphasizing the urgent need for a unified and comprehensive approach to safeguard Pakistan’s borders and internal stability.
The meeting was convened in response to recent hostile incidents, including the unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces on multiple locations along the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. This aggression prompted the government to initiate Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, a decisive military campaign aimed at neutralizing threats and restoring peace in the affected areas. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of all relevant agencies working in seamless coordination to effectively counter these challenges.
During the discussions, security officials assured the Prime Minister that all agencies remain on high alert and have implemented robust measures to protect national security interests. They highlighted ongoing efforts to monitor the border closely and respond swiftly to any further provocations. The Prime Minister reiterated that the security apparatus must operate with complete harmony and dedication to uphold the country’s sovereignty.
In addition to the border situation, the meeting addressed the recent developments in Iran, which faced attacks reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel earlier the same day. Recognizing the potential risks to Pakistani nationals residing in Iran, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate action to facilitate their safe evacuation. He instructed officials to coordinate with the Azerbaijani government to arrange secure transit routes for repatriation, highlighting the urgency of protecting Pakistani citizens abroad during times of regional instability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the resilience and dedication of Pakistan’s armed forces. He praised the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, acknowledging their commitment to defending the nation’s security and territorial integrity. The Prime Minister emphasized that the armed forces, backed by the unwavering support of the Pakistani people, remain fully prepared to confront any threats to the country.
Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude to the security personnel engaged in the ongoing fight against terrorism, saluting their sacrifices and steadfast resolve. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to maintain peace and stability through vigilant security measures and national unity, ensuring that Pakistan remains secure in the face of evolving challenges.
