Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a significant high-level meeting in Lahore on Saturday to thoroughly assess and reinforce the country’s security framework in light of recent developments. The premier called upon all relevant federal and provincial institutions to promptly implement comprehensive and effective security protocols, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. This gathering reflects the government’s proactive stance in safeguarding national stability during a period marked by heightened regional tensions.
The meeting was convened against the backdrop of escalating border hostilities, notably following Pakistan’s launch of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. This military operation was initiated after the Afghan Taliban reportedly opened unprovoked fire on multiple locations along the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border on Thursday. The prime minister underscored the critical need for all agencies to work in close coordination, ensuring seamless cooperation and unity of purpose in addressing these security challenges.
During the session, officials briefed the prime minister on the current alert status of all security forces, confirming that necessary steps were actively being taken to protect the nation’s sovereignty and maintain law and order. The participants assured that security agencies remain vigilant and prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging threats, highlighting the government’s commitment to national defense.
In addition to the border situation, the prime minister addressed concerns arising from recent developments in Iran, which faced attacks earlier in the day attributed to the United States and Israel. Recognizing the potential risks to Pakistani nationals residing there, he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate and comprehensive measures to ensure their safe evacuation. The plan includes facilitating their repatriation through Azerbaijan, with direct diplomatic engagement to coordinate this effort swiftly and efficiently.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also praised the dedication and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces, led by Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. He highlighted their unwavering commitment to defending the country’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The prime minister expressed deep respect for the sacrifices made by the security personnel in the ongoing fight against terrorism, acknowledging the nation’s collective gratitude for their service and valor.
This meeting in Lahore serves as a clear indication of the government’s resolve to maintain internal stability and respond decisively to external threats. By reinforcing inter-agency collaboration and focusing on the safety of Pakistani citizens abroad, the leadership aims to navigate the complex security landscape with vigilance and strategic foresight.
