    Clashes Near US Consulate in Karachi Leave Several Injured Amid Protests Over Iran Strikes

    In Karachi, tensions escalated sharply on Sunday when a group of demonstrators gathered outside the US consulate on MT Khan Road to protest recent US and Israeli military actions targeting Iran. The peaceful demonstration quickly turned violent as protesters attempted to breach the consulate’s perimeter, throwing stones at security personnel. This aggressive move prompted law enforcement to respond with force in an effort to regain control of the situation.

    Rescue teams confirmed that at least five individuals sustained injuries during the clashes and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The nature of the injuries has not been disclosed, but officials emphasized the urgency of the situation. The unrest underscored the volatile atmosphere surrounding international developments, which have sparked strong reactions among local communities in Karachi.

    In response to the outbreak of violence, police and paramilitary forces, including the Rangers, swiftly increased their presence around the consulate and other sensitive locations throughout the city. Their primary objective is to prevent any further escalation and to maintain public order amid growing unrest. The authorities have been vigilant in monitoring the situation to ensure that such incidents do not spiral out of control.

    The protest and ensuing clashes had a significant impact on traffic flow in the surrounding areas. The authorities were compelled to close the stretch of road from Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi, which led to severe congestion and delays for commuters. Karachi traffic police implemented several diversion routes to manage the gridlock: vehicles approaching from Jinnah Bridge were redirected towards II Chundrigar Road, traffic from Boat Basin was turned back at Mai Kolachi Phatak, and vehicles coming from PIDC were also sent back to avoid further bottlenecks.

    Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took immediate notice of the incident and requested a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Police in Karachi. In a firm statement, the home minister underscored that the government would not tolerate any attempts by individuals or groups to undermine the rule of law. He further instructed law enforcement agencies to enhance security measures at all critical installations across the province to deter any potential threats.

    This incident highlights the delicate balance authorities must maintain between allowing peaceful protests and preventing violent outbreaks. As the situation continues to develop, officials remain on high alert, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The unrest reflects broader regional tensions and the local community’s response to international conflicts, emphasizing the interconnected nature of global and domestic affairs.
