China Calls for Immediate Ceasefire Amid US-Israel Strikes on Iran, Advises Evacuations

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has voiced serious concerns regarding the recent military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, the ministry emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation of tensions in the already volatile region. It called on all involved parties to exercise restraint and return to dialogue and diplomatic negotiations as the only viable path toward peace and stability.

The statement underscored the importance of respecting Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, highlighting that any violation of these principles could have far-reaching consequences for regional and global security. This appeal reflects China’s broader diplomatic stance advocating for peaceful conflict resolution and adherence to international law.

Following these developments, China’s embassy in Israel issued a safety advisory on Sunday, urging Chinese citizens residing in Israel to move to safer locations within the country or consider evacuating to Egypt through the Taba border crossing. This precautionary measure comes amid growing concerns over potential spillover violence and instability in the region. Simultaneously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry advised nationals in Iran to leave the country at the earliest opportunity, providing four overland exit routes through Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and Iraq to facilitate their safe departure.

The recent military operation launched by the United States and Israel on Saturday targeted Iran’s military infrastructure, reportedly resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iranian state media. This significant development has dramatically intensified tensions in the Middle East, raising fears of a broader conflict. In response, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency published a commentary on Sunday condemning the attack as a blatant act of aggression against a sovereign nation. The article criticized the United States for employing military force as a tool of power politics and hegemony, describing the strike as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and fundamental international norms.

In a related development, the escalating instability has also impacted commercial aviation in the region. Hong Kong-based Cathay Group, the parent company of Cathay Pacific Airways, announced on Saturday the suspension of its operations in the Middle East. This decision affects passenger flights to and from key hubs such as Dubai and Riyadh, as well as cargo services operating through Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. The airline cited the heightened regional tensions following the strikes as the primary reason for halting services, reflecting the growing concerns among international businesses about safety and operational risks in the area.

As the situation continues to unfold, China’s calls for de-escalation and protection of its citizens highlight the increasing complexity of the geopolitical landscape. The international community remains watchful, hoping for a swift return to peaceful negotiations to avert further conflict and instability in the Middle East.
