Sudan Lifts Two-Year Curfew in Capital Amid Ongoing Conflict

Sudan’s military authorities have officially lifted the two-year curfew imposed on the capital city, Khartoum. This curfew was initially enforced following the military’s recapture of the city 18 months ago amid escalating unrest. The move marks a significant shift toward normalcy in the capital, which has been under strict restrictions to control security and public order. Residents can now expect fewer limitations on movement and daily activities, signaling a tentative step toward stability in the heart of Sudan.

Meanwhile, despite the easing of restrictions in Khartoum, conflict continues to rage in other parts of Sudan. Various regions remain embroiled in violence and instability, underscoring the ongoing challenges facing the country. The military’s control over the capital does not yet translate into nationwide peace, as armed clashes and political tensions persist. This ongoing turmoil highlights the fragile nature of Sudan’s security landscape and the complexities involved in achieving lasting peace.

In a significant development, the lifting of the curfew could have broader implications for Sudan’s political and social environment. It may facilitate economic activities and improve humanitarian access in the capital, which has been severely affected by the prolonged restrictions. However, the continued conflict elsewhere poses risks to overall national recovery and stability. The situation remains fluid, with the international community closely monitoring developments as Sudan navigates this critical period.
