Iranian UN Ambassador Praises Pakistan, Russia, China for Condemning US and Israel Actions

During an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council held on Saturday, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, delivered a forceful denunciation of the United States and Israel. He accused both nations of engaging in what he described as a blatant assault on the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. His remarks came amid rising tensions and international concern over recent hostilities involving Iran.

Ambassador Iravani emphasized that Tehran had repeatedly raised alarms about provocative rhetoric and interference by the US president in Iran’s internal affairs. He pointed out that these actions flagrantly violate international law and the foundational agreements that govern the conduct of nations within the global community. Despite Iran’s numerous appeals to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to address these issues, he lamented that no effective response had been forthcoming.

He further characterized the hostile measures taken against Iran as unequivocal acts of aggression, framing them as an open military assault on the Islamic Republic. Iravani underscored that the conflict extends beyond a bilateral dispute, framing it as a broader challenge to the authority and legitimacy of the United Nations itself. He stated that the US and Israel’s campaign is not only directed at Iran but represents an attack on the international legal order and the very framework of global governance.

In a notable gesture, the Iranian envoy expressed his sincere appreciation for the steadfast and principled stance taken by Russia, China, and Pakistan. He credited these countries for condemning what he termed the unlawful and aggressive actions by the US and Israel. At the same time, he criticized other members of the Security Council for what he described as a double standard, accusing them of ignoring the blatant aggression while unjustly condemning Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense as guaranteed under the UN Charter.

Highlighting the severe human consequences of the ongoing conflict, Iravani described the attacks as war crimes and crimes against humanity. He accused the US envoy to the UN, Mike Waltz, of deliberately misrepresenting facts and spreading misinformation to justify the aggressive actions of Washington and Tel Aviv. Iravani dismissed the US’s legal justifications as baseless and without any foundation in international law.

Addressing concerns raised by Western nations such as France and the United Kingdom regarding Iran’s nuclear program, the ambassador firmly rejected allegations that Iran’s nuclear activities are anything but peaceful. He insisted that these claims lack both factual evidence and legal merit, reinforcing Iran’s position that its nuclear program complies fully with international regulations.

The emergency session was convened following requests from the permanent missions of France, Bahrain, China, Russia, and Colombia, reflecting the growing alarm over the escalating tensions in the region. This meeting brought to the forefront the deep divisions within the Security Council over how to respond to the crisis, with Iran seeking to rally support against what it perceives as unjust aggression by the US and Israel.
