ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of nurturing the moral and educational growth of Pakistan’s youth by drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He stated this is essential for securing a stable and prosperous future for the nation.
Addressing the National Seerat Conference on the occasion of the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal (Eid Milad-un-Nabi) in Islamabad, the prime minister highlighted this year’s theme: “The protection, development, and character of the new generation in the light of the Prophet’s biography.” The event brought together religious scholars, researchers, and diplomats from across the Muslim world.
Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that Pakistan’s future trajectory is directly linked to the values instilled in its youth today. He described the younger generation as the focal point of the nation’s hopes and its bright future. He posed a critical question: what kind of Pakistan does the nation aspire to see? His answer was clear — the future depends on the generation being prepared now.
He underscored that the Prophet’s life offers a comprehensive guide for all aspects of life, citing significant examples such as the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which demonstrated strategic foresight; the patience shown during the events in Taif; and the establishment of brotherhood (Muwakhat) between the Muhajir and Ansar in Medina. The prime minister urged citizens to apply these principles to address current social and economic challenges.
Detailing government initiatives, Shehbaz Sharif recalled his directive to the Ministry of Education two years ago to incorporate the Prophet’s moral teachings into the national curriculum. He praised the National Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Wa Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Authority for developing a comprehensive educational framework already implemented in the Federal Capital, with provincial governments following suit.
He also called on religious seminaries nationwide to cultivate scholars who excel not only in religious knowledge but also in moral integrity and civic responsibility. The prime minister stressed that religious leaders must guide the nation toward unity, diligence, and honesty.
Addressing sectarianism and ideological polarization, Shehbaz Sharif recalled the spirit of the Pakistan Movement, emphasizing that under Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s leadership, Muslims of diverse schools of thought united for a common cause. He warned that sectarianism arises when separate identities and centers emerge, but unity results when there is a single central focus.
Drawing an analogy to the Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina, where Muslims from all sects pray behind one Imam during pilgrimage, he urged religious leaders to foster the same spirit of tolerance, sacrifice, and unity within their communities. He cautioned against those who exploit academic or religious differences to incite hatred, noting that constructive intellectual disagreement has historically enriched Islamic tradition.
In a significant development, the prime minister praised Pakistan’s foreign policy and regional diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating conflicts in the Middle East. He acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Pakistan’s diplomatic corps in collaborating with regional allies to secure a temporary ceasefire amid recent Gulf tensions.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude toward Saudi Arabia and Turkey, highlighting the steadfast support from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during challenging times. He recognized the presence of diplomats, including Turkish Ambassador Dr Mehmet Paçacı (Nazir Oglu) and representatives from Saudi Arabia, and called for appreciation of their contributions to the successful treaty of Mecca.
Concluding his address, the prime minister reaffirmed that the Prophet’s message embodies global peace, universal mercy, and respect for all humanity regardless of faith or background. He cited historical examples of the Prophet’s compassionate treatment of non-Muslims, such as the daughter of Hatim al-Tai, to highlight Islam’s foundational principles of human dignity and hospitality.
Shehbaz Sharif urged citizens and scholars to embody this message in their conduct, ensuring no harm is inflicted by word or deed, and to work collectively toward building a dignified and stable Pakistan. He also honored authors and researchers whose works on the life of the Prophet (PBUH) were nationally recognized during the event.
