PSX Declines as Gold Prices Surge in Pakistan’s Market

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a downturn on Monday, marking a challenging start to the trading week. The benchmark KSE-100 Index fell by 199 points, closing at 176,966 points. This decline reflects cautious investor sentiment amid ongoing economic concerns.

Simultaneously, the domestic gold market witnessed a significant price increase. The price of gold per tola surged by Rs4,200, reaching Rs487,136, the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA). Similarly, the cost of 10 grams of gold climbed by Rs3,601 to Rs417,640, indicating strong demand for the precious metal.

Gold prices have shown considerable volatility in recent times, influenced heavily by fluctuations in the international bullion market. Traditionally regarded as a safe-haven asset, gold tends to attract investors during periods of economic instability, inflationary pressures, geopolitical tensions, and shifts in monetary policy expectations.

In a significant development, the ongoing rally in gold prices underscores the persistent uncertainty in both domestic and global markets. Investors remain vigilant, closely monitoring global economic data, currency trends, and central bank policy announcements to gauge future market directions. This dynamic environment continues to impact asset prices, including equities and precious metals, shaping investment strategies across Pakistan and beyond.
