Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom from August 24 to 28 for an official trip aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Britain.
During his five-day stay, Dar will engage in high-level discussions with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, Minister of State for Pakistan at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Stephen Doughty, and other senior British officials. He will also meet with prominent British parliamentarians and members of the British-Pakistani community.
A significant part of the visit will involve Dar’s meeting with the secretary-general of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to address the critical issue of Pakistani crew members detained by Somali pirates aboard the oil tanker MT Honour 25. This meeting highlights Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to seek international support for the safe release of the captured crew.
Additionally, Dar is set to meet Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, further underlining the visit’s focus on strengthening multilateral ties.
The Foreign Office emphasized that these engagements will serve as a valuable platform to deepen high-level contacts and foster mutual cooperation between the two countries. The agenda will cover a broad spectrum of bilateral and international topics, reflecting the continued high-level dialogue between Islamabad and London on regional and global issues.
Dar’s visit also includes interactions with British government officials, parliamentarians, and the Pakistani diaspora, reinforcing the multifaceted nature of the trip and its importance in advancing Pakistan-UK relations.
