ISLAMABAD: In a remarkable display of batting prowess, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This achievement sees him surpassing the previous records held by two of the game’s modern greats, India’s Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s own Babar Azam, who had set the benchmarks in earlier tournaments.

Virat Kohli had amassed an impressive 319 runs during the 2014 T20 World Cup, a record that stood strong for over a decade. Meanwhile, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s premier batsman, had scored 258 runs in the same 2014 tournament, showcasing his consistency on the global stage. Farhan’s breakthrough performance now places him at the pinnacle of T20 World Cup batting achievements, highlighting his vital role in Pakistan’s campaign.

Throughout the ongoing tournament, Farhan has been the backbone of Pakistan’s batting lineup, consistently delivering crucial runs. His journey to this record-breaking feat began with a strong start, accumulating 220 runs in just the first four matches. This early dominance made him the leading run-scorer at that point in the competition, a testament to his form and confidence at the crease.

Among his standout innings was an unbeaten century against Namibia, where he showcased his ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed. Additionally, Farhan contributed a solid 73 runs against the USA and 47 against the Netherlands, further cementing his status as a dependable batsman. Despite a rare setback against India, where he was dismissed without scoring, he maintained an impressive average of 73.33 during the group stage, reflecting his overall consistency.

As the tournament progressed into the Super 8 stage, Farhan continued to impress by adding 63 runs against England. This innings pushed his total tally well beyond 220 runs, reinforcing his position as the tournament’s top scorer and a key player in Pakistan’s quest for the title. His ability to perform under pressure and against varied bowling attacks has been instrumental in Pakistan’s strong showing so far.

Farhan’s record-breaking performance not only highlights his individual talent but also brings renewed optimism to Pakistan’s cricket fans, who have been eagerly awaiting such a standout display on the world stage. His achievements add to the rich legacy of Pakistani cricket and inspire the next generation of players aiming to make their mark internationally.
