Petrol and Diesel Prices Increased by Up to Rs6.47 per Litre from August 18

The federal government has announced a significant increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, effective from August 18. Under the revised pricing mechanism, the cost of high-speed diesel has surged by Rs6.47 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs390.42 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol prices have been raised by Rs5.77 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs331.20 per litre.

This adjustment comes as part of the government’s periodic review of petroleum product prices, which are aligned with international market trends and the established pricing formula. The notification detailing these changes was officially issued, confirming the implementation date and the revised rates.

In a significant development, this price hike is expected to have a broad impact across various sectors. Motorists and public transport operators will face increased fuel costs, while farmers and businesses that depend heavily on diesel-powered machinery and transportation are likely to experience higher operational expenses. This could potentially lead to a ripple effect on the prices of goods and services nationwide.

The government’s approach to adjusting fuel prices reflects ongoing efforts to balance fiscal policies with market realities. By periodically revising petroleum prices, authorities aim to manage economic pressures while responding to fluctuations in global oil markets. The latest increase underscores the challenges faced by consumers and industries amid rising energy costs.
