Supreme Court Directs Imran Khan’s Transfer to Shifa International Today

The Supreme Court has mandated that former prime minister Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital on the same day. The court specified that Khan’s personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan, along with his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, must accompany him during the transfer. It was also directed that all hospital expenses will be borne by Khan himself.

Further hearings in the case have been postponed until September 16. The court emphasized that Khan’s health should not become a subject of political debate and confirmed that he will remain hospitalized until the next session. During the proceedings, the federal government raised objections to the transfer order, with the additional attorney general pointing out that no prior notice had been given to the government. This objection has been formally included in the court’s order.

On Monday, the Adiala jail superintendent submitted a report to the Supreme Court indicating that Khan’s eyesight in one eye has improved to an “almost normal” state following treatment by an ophthalmologist. The report highlighted that Khan has undergone medical examinations three times daily, supervised by multiple government-appointed doctors. Records show that 39 medical specialists have monitored his condition between November 2023 and August 2026.

The two-page report also detailed Khan’s interactions with family and legal counsel. It noted that Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have held 84 meetings during weekly Tuesday visits allowed under jail regulations. Additionally, lawyer Salman Safdar met Khan on February 10 and April 4, 2026.

The submission referenced an assurance given by lawyer Salman Akram Raja to the Islamabad High Court that he would refrain from speaking to the media after meeting Khan, an assurance allegedly breached later. It also cited an Islamabad High Court ruling in the Sher Afzal case that declared Jail Rule 265 unlawful. The report alleged that jail meetings have been used to incite negative sentiments against the judiciary, foreign policy, and law enforcement agencies.

This report precedes a Supreme Court hearing before a three-member bench led by Justice Shahid Waheed, which will review the report alongside concerns about Khan’s medical treatment and his access to family and legal representatives. The allegations concerning the meetings remain claims by jail authorities, pending judicial review.

    This remains a developing story.
