Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to deploy every available resource to maximize assistance and relief for communities affected by floods. This directive was issued during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who provided an update on the current weather conditions and the risks posed by ongoing monsoon rains.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of maintaining strong coordination between the NDMA, provincial authorities, and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure that relief efforts are well-organized and effective. He also commended the integration of artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies at the National Emergencies Operation Centre, which are being used to monitor and respond swiftly to emergency situations.
In a significant development, Lt Gen Malik briefed the prime minister on the ongoing relief operations and rehabilitation measures in flood-affected regions. He assured that, with federal government support, the NDMA would continue its efforts in areas severely impacted by flooding, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, authorities remain vigilant as they closely monitor the effects of the monsoon rains and flooding across the country’s most vulnerable areas, ensuring timely interventions to mitigate further damage and support affected populations.
