Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the critical importance of eliminating terrorist hideouts located within Afghan territory to achieve enduring peace across the region. Speaking on Friday, he highlighted that without decisive measures from the Afghan regime, the threat of terrorism will continue to undermine stability not only in Pakistan but throughout the neighboring areas.

Addressing the issue during an interview with a private television channel, Ahsan Iqbal underscored Pakistan’s repeated appeals to Afghan authorities to halt the sheltering of terrorist groups responsible for violent acts within Pakistan. He stressed that these sanctuaries serve as breeding grounds for terrorism, which Pakistan has been battling relentlessly for years. The minister made it clear that Islamabad seeks a permanent resolution to this pressing concern, which has long hampered bilateral relations and regional security.

Furthermore, Ahsan Iqbal called for concrete and verifiable guarantees from the Afghan government to dismantle these terrorist networks operating on their soil. He pointed out that such assurances are essential for Pakistan to trust that Afghanistan is committed to combating terrorism effectively. The minister also reminded that Pakistan has extended extraordinary support and hospitality to millions of Afghan refugees over the decades, reflecting a spirit of goodwill despite ongoing challenges.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies, Ahsan Iqbal paid tribute to the brave personnel who have lost their lives in the relentless fight against terrorism. He reiterated that the elimination of terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan is not only a matter of national security for Pakistan but a crucial step toward regional peace and stability. The minister concluded by emphasizing that only through decisive and collaborative action can the cycle of violence be broken, paving the way for a safer future for both countries.
