Mohsin Naqvi Leads Pakistan at Warsaw Summit on Combating Illegal Immigration

Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Interior, recently represented the country at a high-level conference held in Warsaw, Poland, which brought together interior ministers from six nations to address the pressing issue of illegal immigration. This important gathering aimed to foster stronger collaboration among the participating countries to combat human smuggling and irregular migration more effectively. The event underscored the growing need for coordinated regional responses to the challenges posed by cross-border criminal networks.

The conference was attended by the interior ministers of Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, and Lithuania, alongside Pakistan’s delegation led by Naqvi. Over the course of the discussions, the ministers exchanged insights and strategies designed to dismantle human trafficking rings and curb the flow of unauthorized migrants. These nations, each facing their own unique migration pressures, recognized the value of working together to enhance border security and share critical intelligence.

During his address, Mohsin Naqvi provided a detailed briefing on the security dynamics along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a region that remains a hotspot for militant activity and illegal crossings. He highlighted the presence of approximately 22 terrorist organizations that continue to regroup and operate within Afghanistan, posing significant threats not only to Pakistan but to the broader region. Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s pivotal role as a frontline state, acting as a barrier between these terrorist elements and the international community.

In addition to security concerns, the conference participants acknowledged Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration and human smuggling. The ministers praised Pakistan’s proactive measures in disrupting illicit networks that facilitate unauthorized movement across borders. Furthermore, the member countries expressed a willingness to explore avenues for providing official employment opportunities to Pakistani workers through lawful migration channels, aiming to reduce the incentives for irregular migration.

The summit concluded with a unanimous commitment to strengthen information-sharing frameworks among the participating nations. There was a clear consensus on the necessity of enhancing border management systems and promoting legal pathways for migration to ensure safer and more regulated movement of people. This collaborative approach is expected to contribute significantly to regional stability and security, while also addressing humanitarian concerns linked to illegal migration.

Overall, the Warsaw conference marked a significant step forward in regional cooperation against illegal immigration and human trafficking. It highlighted Pakistan’s integral role in these efforts and reinforced the importance of sustained dialogue and joint action among neighboring countries to tackle complex transnational challenges.
