Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, underscoring the enduring and robust strategic partnership between Pakistan and China. This high-level interaction highlighted the mutual commitment to deepen cooperation across various sectors, particularly focusing on accelerating projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship initiative of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

During the meeting, the prime minister warmly conveyed his felicitations to the Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year. He expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and socio-economic development. This support has been a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship, fostering stability and growth in Pakistan over the years.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, describing it as a relationship built on deep-rooted trust and friendship that transcends mere diplomatic ties. The prime minister highlighted the need to expedite ongoing CPEC projects, which are vital for Pakistan’s infrastructure development and economic progress. Furthermore, he called for expanded collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, information technology, mining, and mineral exploration, recognizing their potential to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economic diversification.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong provided a comprehensive update on the latest developments in bilateral relations, reaffirming China’s steadfast commitment to supporting Pakistan’s sovereignty and socio-economic advancement. He conveyed warm regards from the Chinese leadership and reiterated the importance of maintaining close coordination between the two countries. Both leaders exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues, agreeing on the necessity of joint efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity not only within their borders but also across the wider region.

This meeting comes at a crucial time when regional dynamics are rapidly evolving, and both Pakistan and China are keen to enhance their strategic cooperation to address common challenges. The dialogue between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reflects the ongoing dedication to fostering a partnership that benefits both nations economically and politically, while also contributing to broader regional harmony.
