Mohammad Amir Confident India Will Miss Semi-Finals in ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Mohammad Amir, the experienced former fast bowler of Pakistan, has reiterated his strong belief that the Indian cricket team will not make it to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. During a recent interview on a private television channel, Amir did not hold back his views, emphasizing that India’s journey in the tournament will be cut short before the crucial knockout stage. His prediction comes amid growing speculation and intense media scrutiny surrounding India’s current squad dynamics.

Adding further context to his statement, Amir highlighted the internal challenges faced by the Indian team, particularly pointing to the influence of politics within their ranks. He warned that these off-field distractions could severely impact their on-field performance. Ahmed Shehzad, another former Pakistani cricketer, echoed similar sentiments by cautioning India about the consequences of internal discord. Shehzad reminded that Pakistan has previously navigated through such political turmoil within its own team and suggested that the Indian side might be heading down a similar path, which could undermine their chances in the tournament.

Earlier this month, Mohammad Amir also shared a candid assessment of one of India’s promising young players, Abhishek Sharma, ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan encounter. On a televised sports programme, Amir scrutinized Sharma’s batting style and consistency, describing him more as an aggressive hitter rather than a technically sound batsman. He remarked that Sharma tends to play with a high-risk approach, often slogging at nearly every delivery, which can be a double-edged sword. While this aggressive style can yield big runs, it also increases the likelihood of failure.

Amir elaborated on Sharma’s performance pattern, pointing out that the left-handed opener tends to produce sporadic big scores amidst a series of low ones. He expressed concerns about Sharma’s technique, suggesting that it relies heavily on brute power instead of solid batting fundamentals. Despite these criticisms, Amir acknowledged that when Sharma is in good form, he is capable of dismantling even the most disciplined bowling attacks. However, he also noted that Sharma remains vulnerable to quality variations, particularly slower deliveries and subtle swing bowling, which could be exploited by experienced bowlers.

These insights from Mohammad Amir come at a critical juncture as the cricketing world eagerly awaits the showdown between India and Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for Sunday. The match is expected to be a fiercely contested battle, with both teams under immense pressure to perform. Amir’s bold predictions and analysis add an intriguing layer to the pre-match discussions, highlighting the complexities both teams face beyond just skill and talent.

In summary, Mohammad Amir’s confident stance on India’s prospects in the tournament, combined with his detailed critique of Abhishek Sharma, underscores the challenges India must overcome if they hope to progress deep into the competition. With team politics and player form under the microscope, the upcoming matches promise to be as much about strategy and mental resilience as about cricketing prowess.
