China Calls for Calm Amid Rising Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Clashes

China has stepped forward with a strong appeal for an immediate halt to hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan, expressing deep concern over the recent surge in violent confrontations along their shared border. The escalating conflict has alarmed regional observers, prompting Beijing to engage diplomatically with both Islamabad and Kabul in hopes of defusing the situation before it spirals further out of control.

At a routine press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning conveyed China’s serious apprehension after reports emerged that Pakistan conducted airstrikes targeting key Afghan cities, including the capital, Kabul. She emphasized the urgent need for both nations to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could exacerbate the conflict. Mao Ning called on the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan to swiftly work toward a ceasefire agreement, highlighting the importance of preventing further casualties and stabilizing the volatile border region.

China has maintained a consistent role as a mediator in the ongoing tensions between the two neighbors, leveraging diplomatic channels to encourage dialogue and peaceful resolution. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, alongside its embassies in Islamabad and Kabul, remains actively engaged with relevant authorities on both sides. This involvement underscores Beijing’s commitment to playing a constructive role in easing hostilities and fostering regional stability, which is crucial for broader security and economic cooperation in South Asia.

The current flare-up in violence follows the launch of Pakistan’s “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” initiated in response to what Pakistani officials described as unprovoked attacks by Afghan Taliban forces along multiple points of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. security sources, Taliban militants opened fire in several areas within Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, prompting a swift and coordinated military counteroffensive by Pakistani armed forces to secure the border and neutralize threats.

In a significant tactical development, Pakistani troops successfully captured five Afghan military posts located in the Paktia province, directly opposite South Waziristan. The captured positions included two posts facing Shawal, two near Angoor Adda, and one close to Zarmalan. Pakistani forces raised the national flag over these strategic locations, signaling a firm assertion of control. During the operation, the military also destroyed an Afghan terminal at Angoor Adda, further weakening Taliban logistical capabilities.

Officials reported that the Taliban fighters were compelled to retreat under the combined pressure of Pakistan’s air strikes, artillery fire, and the deployment of quadcopters to target militant strongholds and command centers. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar provided a grim assessment of the operation’s impact, stating that 133 Taliban militants had been killed and over 200 injured, with casualties expected to rise as military actions continue. He detailed that 27 Taliban posts were destroyed and nine others captured, while key defense installations in Kabul, Paktia, and Kandahar came under targeted assault.

The operation also inflicted heavy damage on Taliban military assets, reportedly neutralizing more than 36 tanks, along with artillery guns and armored personnel carriers. Critical command and logistics infrastructure, including corps and brigade headquarters as well as ammunition depots, were destroyed, significantly degrading the Taliban’s operational capabilities in the region.

Heavy fighting was reported across multiple sectors, including Chitral, Bajaur, Tirah, Mohmand, Kurram, and Arandu, where Pakistani forces remained vigilant and prepared to defend national sovereignty. Officials underscored that Pakistan’s military is fully committed to safeguarding the country’s borders and warned that any further aggression from across the border would be met with an even stronger and more decisive response.

As tensions continue to simmer, China’s call for calm and dialogue serves as a crucial reminder of the broader implications of this conflict for regional peace and security. The international community watches closely, hopeful that diplomatic efforts will prevail and prevent the situation from escalating into a wider confrontation.
