Authorities in Kohat have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the tragic murder of Dr. Mahwish, a female medical professional whose killing had sent shockwaves through the community. The arrests came after a thorough investigation that combined modern forensic techniques with intelligence-led operations, despite the challenging security environment in the region.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 22, 2026, precisely at 8:05 pm near the Usman Mosque, located close to the KDA Hospital area. police reports, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on Dr. Mahwish at the scene, resulting in her immediate death. The swift response of local law enforcement saw police teams quickly arriving at the location, securing the area, and gathering crucial forensic evidence to aid the investigation. A case was promptly registered against unknown suspects as authorities began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the attack.

In the initial stages of the inquiry, the victim’s husband, Muhammad Hasnain, who resides in the KDA housing scheme, informed the police that there were no known personal disputes or enmities involving his wife. This statement prompted investigators to explore multiple angles, including potential motives beyond personal conflicts, to identify the perpetrators responsible for the heinous crime.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the provincial government took immediate notice and demanded a comprehensive report on the progress of the case. They emphasized the need for prompt action and instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure the swift arrest of those responsible. In response, District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi formed special investigative teams that included senior officers such as the SP City, SP Investigation, DSP Headquarters, and the SHO of KDA Police Station. These teams carried out intelligence-driven raids across various locations, employing both technological tools and human intelligence to track down the suspects.

During the course of the investigation, police recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the murder, along with a motorcycle and a rickshaw reportedly utilized by the accused to facilitate their movements. The suspects, identified as Hayat Gul and Saif Ali, were traced across multiple districts, illustrating the extensive reach and coordination of the police operation. After a series of meticulously planned raids, both individuals were apprehended from the Ghamkol No. 3 area.

Preliminary interrogations revealed that the motive behind the killing was rooted in a verbal altercation between Hayat Gul and Dr. Mahwish, which tragically escalated into a fatal act of retaliation. While the investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officials have assured that they are compiling a strong, evidence-based case file. Their goal is to present a robust challan that will facilitate the delivery of exemplary punishment to the culprits, sending a clear message against such violent crimes.

This case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining security and justice in volatile environments, but also demonstrates their commitment to utilizing modern investigative methods and intelligence to uphold the rule of law. The community continues to await further updates as the legal process moves forward.
