Sky News Retracts False Claim on Afghan Air Force Attack Amid Backlash

Sky News recently found itself at the center of controversy after publishing a misleading post that falsely alleged an attack on Pakistan by the Afghan Air Force. The claim quickly drew sharp criticism from Pakistani social media users, who challenged the veracity of the report and highlighted the non-existence of an Afghan Air Force capable of such an operation. Following intense public pressure and widespread condemnation, the international news outlet was compelled to delete the erroneous post, acknowledging the backlash it had provoked.

This incident is not the first time Sky News has been accused of disseminating anti-Pakistan narratives. The channel, along with its Afghan-born anchor Yalda Hakim, has faced repeated allegations of biased reporting and spreading propaganda that undermines Pakistan’s image. Many Pakistanis have voiced their concerns over what they describe as substandard journalism, questioning the credibility and motives behind such reports. The recent episode has reignited debates on social media about the responsibility of international media in reporting accurately on regional conflicts.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army has been actively responding to security challenges along its western border. In a swift and decisive operation named Ghazab lil-Haq, the military launched a counter-offensive against the Afghan Taliban regime’s unprovoked aggression. The operation resulted in significant losses for the Taliban, with 133 militants killed and over 200 injured. Pakistani forces successfully destroyed 27 Taliban posts and captured five strategic locations, demonstrating their operational effectiveness.

Moreover, the counter-attack inflicted heavy damage on the Taliban’s military assets, including the destruction of more than 36 tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers. The Taliban fighters were forced to retreat, abandoning numerous posts and hideouts in the face of the Pakistan Army’s superior firepower and tactical maneuvers. This military success has been widely acknowledged within Pakistan as a strong response to ongoing threats along the border.

In light of these developments, the false narrative pushed by Sky News not only misrepresented the situation but also undermined Pakistan’s legitimate security efforts. The swift removal of the misleading post reflects the power of social media activism in holding international media accountable. It also highlights the ongoing challenges Pakistan faces in managing its image on the global stage amid complex regional dynamics.
