Tariq Fazal Accuses Afghan Regime of Acting as Indian Proxy Amid Border Tensions

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, has publicly accused the Afghan Taliban-led regime of functioning as a proxy for India, intensifying concerns over the fragile security situation along Pakistan’s western border. Speaking on Thursday, he highlighted the ongoing unprovoked firing incidents by Afghan forces targeting Pakistani border areas, which have escalated tensions between the two neighbors.

Elaborating on the situation, Tariq Fazal emphasized Pakistan’s sovereign right to defend its territory against any aggression. He stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces are actively responding with strength and determination to these provocations, ensuring that any hostile actions are met with a firm and appropriate military response. This stance reflects Islamabad’s commitment to safeguarding its borders amid a complex regional security environment.

Furthermore, the minister pointed out that Pakistan has consistently raised concerns about terrorism emanating from Afghan soil at various international platforms. Despite these efforts, he lamented that the Taliban regime has failed to take meaningful action against terrorist sanctuaries within Afghanistan. This inaction, Tariq Fazal, undermines regional stability and poses a direct threat to Pakistan’s security interests.

Adding another layer to the diplomatic strain, Tariq Fazal revealed that Afghanistan had requested financial assistance amounting to $10 billion but was unwilling to provide any guarantees or assurances in return. This demand, coupled with the lack of countermeasures against terrorist groups, has further complicated bilateral relations. The minister urged the Afghan leadership to reconsider its approach and take concrete steps to curb terrorist activities that jeopardize peace in the region.

In a pointed critique, Tariq Fazal accused India of exploiting the situation by using Afghanistan as a strategic base to destabilize Pakistan. He underscored that India’s involvement in the region is part of a broader agenda to undermine Pakistan’s security and sovereignty. Reflecting on past conflicts, he confidently asserted that Pakistan delivered a decisive defeat to India during the May 2025 war, a victory that continues to resonate in the country’s defense narrative.

Highlighting the international recognition of Pakistan’s leadership, the minister praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their commendable roles, which he claimed have drawn global admiration. This acclaim, he suggested, is a source of discomfort for India, which allegedly seeks to counter Pakistan’s growing stature through covert operations and proxy actions via Afghanistan.

Concluding his remarks, Tariq Fazal warned that Pakistan is prepared to expose India’s covert sponsorship of hostile activities in the region. He reiterated Islamabad’s resolve to confront these challenges head-on and maintain regional peace and security. The minister’s statements come at a time when diplomatic efforts to stabilize Pakistan-Afghanistan relations remain fragile, underscoring the complexities of South Asian geopolitics.
