The Environment Public Authority (EPA) of Kuwait has issued a strong advisory urging the public to comply fully with environmental regulations, following the recent circulation of videos on social media showing individuals operating drones in close proximity to birds at Sulaibikhat Beach. This coastal area is recognized as a vital habitat for both resident and migratory bird species, making it especially sensitive to human interference.
In its official statement, the EPA highlighted the dangers posed by flying drones near wildlife, particularly birds. The authority emphasized that such activities can severely disrupt the natural behavior of these animals, especially during critical periods like breeding and nesting seasons. Disturbances caused by drones can lead to stress among birds, abandonment of nests, and interruption of feeding or roosting patterns, which ultimately threatens their survival and the overall ecological balance of the area.
To reinforce the seriousness of the issue, the EPA referenced Article 100 of Kuwait’s Environmental Protection Law. This legislation strictly forbids hunting, killing, capturing, harming, or possessing wild terrestrial and marine organisms. It also prohibits disturbing their young, eggs, nests, or natural habitats. The law permits exceptions only for scientific research purposes, which require prior authorization from the relevant authorities in coordination with the EPA. This legal framework underscores the government’s commitment to preserving biodiversity and protecting vulnerable species from human-induced harm.
Furthermore, the EPA called on photographers, drone operators, and all nature enthusiasts to exercise caution and respect for wildlife. It warned that irresponsible drone usage not only endangers individual animals but can also cause lasting damage to fragile ecosystems. The authority stressed that maintaining the delicate balance of these environments is essential for the health of both wildlife populations and the broader natural heritage of Kuwait.
In addition to issuing these warnings, the EPA encouraged the community to actively participate in conservation efforts by reporting any activities that threaten wildlife or violate environmental laws. The statement concluded by reminding citizens that safeguarding Kuwait’s natural environment is a collective responsibility that requires awareness, vigilance, and adherence to established regulations. Protecting the country’s rich biodiversity is crucial for ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy its unique natural landscapes and wildlife.
