    Suicide Attack Near Merian Police Station Thwarted in Bannu

    In a significant development on Wednesday evening, a powerful explosion took place near Merian Police Station in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when a vehicle loaded with explosives crashed into the vicinity. Following the blast, assailants tried to breach the police station, but swift and decisive action by the police prevented their entry.

    Bannu District Police Officer Furqan Bilal stated that an intense exchange of gunfire ensued immediately after the explosion between security forces and the attackers. Tragically, one police officer lost his life during the confrontation, while five individuals, including another police official, sustained injuries.

    The wounded were promptly transported to Bannu District Headquarters Hospital, where they received urgent medical care. In response to the attack, authorities sealed off the area and launched a thorough search and clearance operation to ensure security.

    Following the incident, several high-ranking officials visited the hospital, including Bannu Division Commissioner Captain (retd) Khalid Mahmood, Bannu Region DIG Rab Nawaz Khan, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faheem, and Assistant Commissioners Allah Nawaz Khan, Ikhlas Saleem, and Sajjad Hussain.

    Meanwhile, the funeral prayer for the fallen police officer was conducted with full official honors at Bannu Police Lines. The ceremony was attended by senior civil and military officials, police personnel, and numerous citizens. The martyr was accorded a guard of honor, with tributes paid to his ultimate sacrifice for maintaining peace and security in the region.
