Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar conveyed his appreciation to the Pakistani government after receiving a shipment of mangoes at his Budapest office. The gift, consisting of 90 mangoes, was sent by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and awaited Magyar at the end of what he described as a “historic day.”
In a social media message, Magyar contrasted the seasonal fruit with more traditional diplomatic gifts, humorously noting that “not everyone gives a revolver as a gift.” The mangoes were warmly received by his office staff and were quickly consumed, with only a few remaining an hour after their arrival.
Meanwhile, this diplomatic gesture underscores the strengthening relationship between Islamabad and Budapest. Bilateral cooperation has grown steadily in recent years, supported by regular high-level visits and the Pakistan–Hungary Joint Economic Commission. Economic collaboration primarily focuses on trade and the energy sector, driven by Hungary’s long-term investments in Pakistan’s oil and gas exploration projects.
