Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement to intensify their bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, announced Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Leghari following discussions with the Saudi Energy Working Group in Riyadh.
Leading the Pakistani delegation, Leghari engaged in talks aimed at broadening collaboration in the power sector. Both nations agreed to develop a strategic roadmap to foster closer ties and joint initiatives in energy development.
The minister emphasized the Pakistani government’s commitment to supporting Saudi investors, assuring them of full facilitation and a conducive environment for private sector involvement and foreign investment in Pakistan’s energy industry.
During the meeting, the Saudi delegation received a detailed briefing on Pakistan’s smart metering project, known as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), alongside plans to expand the national electricity transmission network.
Leghari highlighted that digitising the electricity distribution system is expected to significantly reduce line losses and enhance operational efficiency across the grid.
In a notable move, the minister extended an invitation to the Saudi Energy Working Group to visit Pakistan, aiming to explore further investment opportunities and deepen bilateral engagement.
Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy production, power transmission, digital technologies, and smart utility systems, marking a significant step towards enhanced energy partnership.
