UK Introduces New eVisa System for Pakistani Travelers with Simplified Process

The United Kingdom has recently unveiled a modernized electronic visa (eVisa) system specifically designed for Pakistani nationals, including tourists, business visitors, and those visiting family. This new digital approach marks a significant shift from the traditional visa process, where physical stickers were affixed inside passports. Now, applicants will receive their visa approval electronically, making the entire procedure more efficient and user-friendly.

Under this revamped system, travelers from Pakistan will continue to submit their visa applications online through the official UK Visas and Immigration portal. However, the key difference lies in the biometric data collection stage. Applicants are required to visit a designated visa application centre only once to provide their biometric information such as fingerprints and photographs. Following this, they no longer need to return to the centre to collect their passports, as the visa status will be digitally linked to their documents.

the British High Commission, successful applicants will receive a digital record of their immigration status accessible through their personal UK Visas and Immigration account. This digital visa, or eVisa, can be conveniently accessed at any time, allowing travelers to prove their visa status using a unique share code at border controls or other checkpoints. This advancement not only enhances security by reducing the risk of lost or damaged physical documents but also offers greater convenience to travelers who can now retain possession of their passports throughout the process.

Jane Marriott CMG OBE, the UK High Commissioner to Pakistan, expressed enthusiasm about the new system, describing it as a major improvement for Pakistani visitors. She highlighted that the eVisa system removes a cumbersome step from the application journey, saving applicants valuable time and effort. Marriott also emphasized that the introduction of the share code feature simplifies the verification of visa status, making travel smoother and more transparent for tourists, businesspeople, and those visiting relatives in the UK.

It is important to note that while the method of visa delivery has changed, the eligibility criteria, visa conditions, and processing times remain consistent with previous procedures. The British embassy has also released an official instructional video to guide applicants through the new eVisa application process, ensuring clarity and ease of use. Travelers are strongly encouraged to apply directly through the official government website, gov.uk, to avoid misinformation and potential scams associated with unauthorized visa agents.

This digital transformation aligns with the UK government’s broader efforts to modernize immigration services and improve the overall experience for international visitors. Starting immediately, Pakistani applicants can create their UK Visas and Immigration account, complete their applications online, and receive their electronic visas via email, all while retaining their passports safely in their possession. This innovative step is expected to facilitate smoother travel arrangements and strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
