Strict Curfew Imposed in Upper and Lower South Waziristan Amid Security Operations

The district administration has implemented stringent security measures by enforcing Section 144 in both Upper and Lower South Waziristan. This decisive action comes amid escalating security concerns and aims to streamline the movement of logistical convoys supporting ongoing operations by security forces in the region. The restrictions are part of a broader effort to maintain public safety and uphold law and order during a sensitive period.

Deputy Commissioner of South Waziristan Upper, Asmatullah Wazir, confirmed that the curfew will be in effect daily from 6am to 6pm specifically in the tehsils of Sarvekai and Sararogha. During these hours, all forms of public movement are strictly prohibited. Additionally, markets and commercial outlets have been ordered to remain closed to prevent any disruptions and to support the uninterrupted activities of security personnel operating in the area.

To further tighten security, authorities have sealed off several critical routes, including the roads connecting Makin, Sararogha, Kot Kai, and Spinkai Raghzai extending up to Nazar Khel. Another key artery, the road from Dargai Bridge passing through Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak, and Moley Khan Sarai leading to Chagmalai, has also been shut down. These closures are intended to restrict unauthorized movement and ensure that security forces can carry out their duties without hindrance.

Residents have been instructed to stop their vehicles at least 50 meters before reaching any security checkpoints. They must also comply with any requests from security personnel, including disembarking from vehicles if asked. The deputy commissioner issued a stern warning that any violation of these restrictions will result in individuals being held personally accountable. He emphasized that strict adherence to the curfew and related orders is mandatory for everyone in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, similar restrictions have been imposed in South Waziristan Lower, particularly in and around the district headquarters of Wana. Deputy Commissioner Musarat Zaman announced a 12-hour curfew from 6am to 6pm, banning all non-essential movement. This measure responds to ongoing security threats and the presence of troop movements in the region, aiming to safeguard both civilians and security personnel.

The curfew in Lower South Waziristan covers key routes such as Wana, Taiarza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanai, and Azizabad Chowk extending up to Dargai Bridge. Movement during the curfew hours will only be allowed in genuine emergencies and must be pre-approved by police or security forces. Individuals seeking to travel must present valid identification and travel permits to gain authorization.

Authorities have urged the local population to strictly follow the curfew regulations and avoid any unnecessary travel during this period. They have made it clear that any breach of the orders will be the sole responsibility of the violators. The enforcement of these temporary restrictions is crucial to maintaining sustainable peace, supporting security operations, and ensuring the safety of residents in these sensitive tribal districts.

Throughout the duration of the curfew, only pre-authorized emergency movements will be permitted in both Upper and Lower South Waziristan. Markets, shops, and other commercial centers will remain closed to minimize public gatherings and reduce security risks. Officials have reiterated that these measures, though restrictive, are vital to stabilizing the region and facilitating the effective functioning of security forces engaged in critical operations.
