Gilgit-Baltistan’s elected Chief Minister, Amjad Hussain Advocate, has announced that the provincial cabinet is likely to be established within the next two to three days as the new government finalizes its structure.
In a recent interview on the programme “Khabar Aur Tajzia,” the chief minister shared that consultations regarding the cabinet formation are ongoing. He confirmed that arrangements concerning ministries with coalition partners, including the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), have already been resolved.
Amjad Hussain emphasized that all political parties were given a fair environment leading up to the elections, though the post-election period presented significant challenges for his party. He disclosed that during the government formation process, he reached out to independent assembly members and successfully gained their support.
Highlighting the selective nature of cabinet appointments, the chief minister noted that not every assembly member could be included as a minister, indicating a careful selection process.
Notably, members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also supported him during the chief minister’s election. Amjad Hussain clarified that the position of Governor Gilgit-Baltistan is designated for the PML-N, which will continue to serve as the opposition party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
He further added that the PML-N holds the post of opposition leader within the assembly, maintaining its significant role in the region’s political landscape.
