Pakistani students achieved notable success by winning three bronze medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), which took place from July 4 to 12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. The competition featured more than 400 participants representing over 90 countries.
The medalists from Pakistan were Zulfiqar Ali, Hamdan Alvi, and Daniyal Shehzad Hamid. Additionally, Heza Mahmood from Lahore and Abdullah Ejaz from Rawalpindi earned special honorable mentions for their outstanding performances.
The team was selected through the National Science Talent Contest, a collaborative effort between the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). After a stringent selection process, the students underwent intensive training at the PIEAS campus, where they received advanced theoretical and practical instruction from both national and international experts.
During the international event, the Pakistani delegation was led by PIEAS professors Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Waseem, who guided the team throughout the competition.
