The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has raised the police budget to Rs191 billion to enhance law enforcement and counter-terrorism efforts throughout the province. This increase aims to modernize the police force and improve overall security.

KP Information Minister Shafi Jan highlighted that the provincial administration is focusing on strengthening the law-and-order framework by allocating substantial resources toward security enhancements. A sum of Rs12 billion has been designated for police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operations in frontline districts, while Rs4 billion is dedicated to police and CTD infrastructure development in the merged districts.

Notably, the budget includes Rs1 billion for the CTD headquarters and Rs7.7 billion for arms and ammunition to boost operational readiness. Additionally, Rs1.8 billion will be spent on acquiring bulletproof vehicles and armored personnel carriers (APCs), enhancing mobility and protection for personnel in the field.

Advanced security technologies are also a priority, with Rs3.562 billion allocated for equipment such as thermal cameras, drones, and modern surveillance systems. To support ongoing operations, Rs7.9 billion has been reserved for the monthly operational expenses of police staff, ensuring sustained effectiveness in the field.

Meanwhile, funds have been earmarked for Safe City initiatives in districts including Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Mardan, Kohat, and Swat. Furthermore, Rs600 million will be invested in establishing a state-of-the-art forensic science laboratory to aid in criminal investigations.

These budgetary allocations underscore the KP government’s commitment to enhancing police capabilities and security infrastructure to address evolving challenges in the region.
