LESCO Withdraws Free Electricity Units, Officials Now Receive Bills

In a significant development, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has ceased providing free electricity units to its officials. This change means that employees who previously enjoyed complimentary power usage will now receive electricity bills and must pay for their consumption. The move marks a shift towards stricter financial accountability within the utility company.

Historically, many public utility companies in Pakistan offered free or subsidized electricity to their staff as a fringe benefit. However, such practices have often been criticized for encouraging misuse and increasing operational costs. LESCO’s decision to withdraw this facility aligns with broader efforts to enhance transparency and reduce financial losses in the power sector.

Meanwhile, this policy change could set a precedent for other regional electricity distribution companies to follow suit. By enforcing billing for all consumers, including employees, LESCO aims to promote fairness and improve revenue collection. The impact of this decision will likely be felt across the organization and may influence future reforms in Pakistan’s energy distribution framework.
