Yemen Faces Health Crisis as Doctor Urges Diabetes Patients to Avoid Insulin

Hospitals across Yemen are experiencing a significant rise in patient admissions as a controversial diet gains popularity among diabetes sufferers. This surge follows the actions of a discredited doctor who has been advising patients to abandon insulin therapy in favor of dietary changes. Medical professionals warn that this trend is leading to dangerous health consequences, including uncontrolled blood sugar levels and increased risk of complications.

In a country already grappling with limited healthcare resources, the increased burden on hospitals is straining an already fragile system. Yemen’s ongoing conflict and economic challenges have made access to proper medical care difficult, and the promotion of unproven treatments exacerbates these issues. The situation highlights the critical need for public health education and regulation to prevent misinformation from endangering vulnerable populations.

Notably, diabetes is a chronic condition requiring consistent management to prevent severe outcomes such as organ damage and death. The encouragement to stop insulin threatens to reverse progress made in managing the disease. Health authorities are calling for urgent interventions to counteract the spread of harmful advice and to support patients in adhering to medically approved treatments.
