An 18-year-old female student was discovered dead under unclear circumstances inside Jamia Hafsa in Islamabad, police confirmed on Friday. The deceased, identified as Marwa, was originally from the Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Upon receiving the report, a substantial police force led by Superintendent of Police (SP) City Dr Ayaz, along with female officers, promptly arrived at the seminary to secure the area and begin an initial investigation.
Police revealed that the teenager had gone to bed on Thursday night but was found unresponsive in her room the next morning. Meanwhile, authorities faced considerable opposition from the seminary’s administration when they insisted on performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The seminary management reportedly urged the police to forgo the post-mortem, but officials maintained that the procedure was legally required due to the suspicious nature of the death. Subsequently, the body was transferred to the Federal Government Hospital, commonly known as Polyclinic, where the autopsy was conducted under police supervision.
In a significant development, SP City Dr Ayaz stated that the post-mortem examination had been completed, but the precise circumstances surrounding the death would only be clarified once the final medical report is received. He emphasized that the police are exploring all possibilities and assured that all legal protocols will be strictly observed throughout the investigation.
Jamia Hafsa, the female branch of Lal Masjid, has been involved in numerous controversies and confrontations with law enforcement over the past twenty years. Police confirmed that a formal case would be registered after the initial post-mortem findings are made available.
