Internet connectivity across Pakistan has been fully restored following the successful repair of faults in the SMW-5 submarine cable, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Friday. This development marks the end of a period of disrupted international internet services that affected users nationwide.

The SMW-5 submarine cable, a critical component of Pakistan’s international internet infrastructure, resumed full operations after the technical issues were completely resolved. During the repair period, internet traffic was strategically rerouted through alternative international links to minimize the impact on users and maintain service continuity.

In a significant development, the PTA highlighted that contingency plans played a crucial role in reducing the disruption experienced by internet users while restoration efforts were underway. The authority maintained constant communication with Transworld Associates, the company responsible for the cable, ensuring a coordinated and efficient repair process.

Looking ahead, the PTA emphasized its ongoing commitment to monitoring Pakistan’s international internet infrastructure closely. This vigilance aims to guarantee secure, reliable, and uninterrupted broadband services throughout the country, safeguarding the digital connectivity that is vital for both economic and social activities.
