Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan for a one-day visit on Tuesday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement amid heightened regional tensions. This trip would be Pezeshkian’s first international journey since the joint military campaign launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February.
While official confirmation from the foreign ministries is still pending, the visit underscores Pakistan’s growing role as a key mediator between conflicting parties following the ceasefire agreement on April 8. Notably, the US and Iran recently signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at halting hostilities, and they conducted high-level direct talks in Switzerland over the weekend.
During his brief stay in Islamabad, President Pezeshkian is expected to meet separately with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This visit comes shortly after Prime Minister Sharif returned from Bürgenstock, Switzerland, where he led critical quadrilateral peace discussions involving the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar on Sunday.
Pezzeshkian’s last official state visit to Pakistan was in August, highlighting the importance of this renewed diplomatic engagement amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.
