Balochistan Govt to Send Acid Attack Victim Dr Mahnoor to US for Treatment

The Balochistan government has resolved to send Dr Mahnoor Nasir, who was the victim of an acid attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, to the United States for advanced medical treatment. Shahid Rind, assistant to the Balochistan chief minister, confirmed that CM Sarfraz Bugti has approved the plan, and the provincial administration has initiated the necessary procedures to facilitate her treatment abroad.

The Chief Minister Secretariat has formally communicated this decision to the relevant authorities. Meanwhile, Dr Mahnoor will continue receiving care at a private hospital in Karachi for approximately one more week until arrangements for her transfer to the US are finalized. The provincial government is committed to deploying all available resources to ensure she obtains the highest quality medical attention.

Dr Mahnoor was shifted to Karachi earlier this month after sustaining acid burns during the attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital. The suspect responsible for the assault was reportedly killed in a police encounter shortly after the incident. Following her transfer, reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists conducted thorough assessments of her condition.

She suffered burn injuries on her face, abdomen, legs, and right hand, covering about 13% of her body. Although the acid affected her eyes, her vision remains intact. As she continues her recovery, the Balochistan chief minister has announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, a hospital staff member who bravely intervened during the attack.

On July 7, CM Bugti praised Tarakai on social media, describing him as a “precious asset to society” for his quick and courageous response. The civil award will recognize his extraordinary bravery, humanity, and dedication to duty in assisting Dr Mahnoor during the critical incident.
