Islamabad: On Friday, members of the National Assembly affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lodged a privilege motion against Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The motion accuses the minister of delivering misleading economic data during parliamentary proceedings.
The motion, initiated by MNA Dr. Azeem Lakhvi and endorsed by multiple lawmakers, alleges that the finance minister provided erroneous statistics concerning the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) and per capita income. These discrepancies, the motion states, represent a violation of parliamentary privilege and call for appropriate action against the minister.
The legislators have called upon the relevant parliamentary committee to investigate the claims and assess whether the information presented by the finance minister was indeed deceptive. This move unfolds amid intense discussions in parliament regarding the federal budget and the government’s economic management, with opposition members persistently challenging the accuracy of official economic indicators and fiscal forecasts.
