Public Transport, Cargo Vehicles Without Fire Extinguishers Banned on Motorways

The Motorway Police have launched a stringent safety enforcement campaign mandating that all public transport and cargo vehicles must carry operational fire extinguishers to be permitted on national highways and motorways. This measure is part of a broader nationwide fire safety awareness initiative running through June 24, designed to minimize the risk of fires during traffic accidents.

In a significant development, after the June 24 deadline, authorities will impose a strict prohibition on any public service or freight vehicles that do not have functional fire extinguishers from accessing the country’s motorway and highway network. Violators of this regulation will be subject to severe legal consequences.

The Motorway Police spokesperson highlighted the critical importance of having an active fire extinguisher in vehicles for safeguarding lives and property. Drivers have been urged to check the expiration dates and ensure the proper functionality of their fire extinguishers before embarking on journeys. Notably, extinguishers that are expired or defective will be rejected during inspections.

Pakistan’s highways are often scenes of serious traffic accidents, many of which are worsened by vehicle fires caused by inadequate maintenance, overheating, or the illicit transport of flammable substances. This new enforcement aims to address these hazards and improve overall road safety standards across the country.
