The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to assemble on the evening of June 15 at the historic Badshahi Mosque in Lahore to observe the new moon marking the start of Muharram-ul-Haram, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced on Thursday.

Simultaneously, zonal and district moon sighting committees will hold their meetings at their respective headquarters to gather and evaluate local testimonies concerning the moon sighting. Notably, the zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad will meet at the Kohsar Block of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

In a significant development, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will thoroughly review all the evidence and reports received from across the country before officially declaring whether the new moon for Muharram has been sighted.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police have finalized their security arrangements to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram. A high-level meeting was convened to review and coordinate security measures for religious gatherings and processions throughout the federal capital.

Chaired by SSP Operations Islamabad Qazi Ali Raza, the meeting included SSP Security Operations Suleman Zafar, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Muhammad Yousuf, senior police officials, as well as organisers and volunteers involved in majalis and processions.

The participants conducted an extensive assessment of the security situation, focusing on coordination between law enforcement agencies and event organisers to manage crowds effectively and maintain law and order during Muharram.

Officials emphasized the importance of close collaboration among police, district administration, organisers, and volunteers to guarantee peaceful celebrations. It was agreed that joint efforts would be enhanced to uphold harmony and security throughout the religious month.

SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza affirmed that Islamabad police would deploy all available resources to ensure comprehensive security and facilitate citizens during Muharram. He commended the efforts of organisers and volunteers for their vital role in maintaining peace and security.

He further stressed that cooperation, religious harmony, and responsible conduct are essential for a peaceful Muharram. The protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the highest priority, with no compromises on security measures during this period.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding majalis, processions, and participants, with particular attention to vigilance and rapid response capabilities throughout the city.
