The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has declared a local public holiday in Karachi on June 8, 2026, to mark the annual Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi. This decision reflects the city’s recognition of the spiritual and cultural significance of the event, which draws numerous devotees each year.

In a formal notification, the KMC specified that June 8, 2026, corresponding to 22 Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH in the Islamic calendar, will be observed as a public holiday exclusively within Karachi. This move follows a resolution passed by the City Council Karachi, emphasizing the importance of the occasion for the local community.

All offices under the administration of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed on this day to allow employees and residents to participate in or observe the Urs festivities. Nonetheless, the notification clarified that personnel involved in essential and emergency services will continue their duties without interruption to ensure public safety and continuity of critical operations.

Notably, the Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi is a significant religious event commemorating the revered Sufi saint, attracting large gatherings and various cultural activities. The local holiday facilitates the smooth conduct of these events while balancing the need for essential services in the bustling metropolis.
