Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a venture of Gul Ahmed Energy Group, revealed plans on Saturday to construct Pakistan’s largest Tier III data centre, targeting completion by 2027. The initiative will begin with an initial investment of $230 million, potentially increasing to $600 million within three to four years.
This development follows a strategic partnership agreement with Huawei Pakistan, which will assist in design, technical planning, and delivering specialized solutions that meet international standards. The project will also include a cutting-edge science and technology park, aiming to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem.
Designed to be highly resilient, secure, and scalable, the data centre will support cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, high-performance computing, digital finance, and e-government services. The collaboration was formalized through an agreement signed by Ubaid Amanullah, COO of QGDC, and Ahmed Bilal Masud, CEO of AI and Cloud Business at Huawei Pakistan.
QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal described the partnership as a transformative milestone for Pakistan’s digital future, emphasizing its potential to drive innovation, economic growth, and attract further investment. Meanwhile, Huawei Pakistan’s CEO Ahmed Bilal Masud highlighted that Pakistan is on the verge of a new digital era where robust digital infrastructure is critical for AI-driven advancements.
Notably, Sindh IT Minister Ali Rashid voiced strong government support, noting that the project will play a key role in establishing a core digital ecosystem in Karachi. This announcement follows a memorandum of understanding signed last month between Huawei Pakistan and QGDC to jointly develop the nation’s largest data centre infrastructure.
