Pakistan has once again expressed its strong opposition to the use of chemical weapons under any circumstances, by any party, anywhere in the world. The country described the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) as a fundamental pillar of the global disarmament regime.

In a significant development, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, delivered these remarks during a Security Council briefing focused on the Middle East. He underscored Islamabad’s unwavering dedication to international efforts aimed at non-proliferation and disarmament.

Ambassador Jadoon highlighted that the CWC plays a crucial role in maintaining global security and preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full backing for initiatives promoting the universal adoption of the convention. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of its thorough, effective, and impartial implementation worldwide to secure lasting peace.

Turning to regional matters, the Pakistani envoy commended the Syrian government’s willingness to cooperate with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). He noted that ongoing engagement and verification by the OPCW are essential for addressing unresolved issues transparently and collaboratively.

Pakistan’s stance at the UN Security Council reflects its commitment to upholding international norms against chemical weapons and supporting mechanisms that foster global stability and security.
