Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique emphasized on Friday the urgent need to grant constitutional rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), addressing the region’s long-standing issues and neglect. Speaking at an election rally in Gilgit, he paid homage to the residents for their significant sacrifices and contributions to securing the region’s freedom.
Rafique noted that the courageous people of G-B had shed their blood to achieve freedom for their homeland and had consistently supported Pakistan’s defense efforts. He highlighted their unwavering solidarity with the armed forces and their role in maintaining national security.
In a significant development, the PML-N leader asserted that the inhabitants of Gilgit-Baltistan are entitled to constitutional recognition. He assured the audience that his party is committed to fulfilling this promise and would not let the people down. “The people of Gilgit are a source of pride for our nation, and we stand firmly with them,” he stated.
Rafique further stressed that political leadership should focus on serving the public rather than pursuing wealth and power. He pledged to work towards eradicating the sense of deprivation in the region and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
Meanwhile, he underscored the importance of sustained development, warning against halting ongoing projects. He emphasized that continuous progress is essential for the prosperity of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Highlighting the region’s tourism potential, Rafique remarked that with proper development of its natural beauty and resources, Gilgit-Baltistan could emerge as a tourist destination rivaling Switzerland. This vision, he suggested, could bring significant economic benefits and elevate the region’s status.
