Allegations of encroachment and unauthorized construction near Karachi’s Hill Park have reignited concerns about the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) land department’s role. The department had issued a conditional no objection certificate (NOC) for a plot in PECHS Block 6 close to Hill Park, yet simultaneously, the director of land requested police intervention against illegal encroachments and forged documents.
The conditional NOC, dated April 30, specified that if the concerned society and authorized bodies raised no objections and no government or KMC land was encroached upon, the department would not oppose construction on the plot. However, the certificate explicitly stated that it did not confer legal ownership or confirm boundary demarcations.
In a significant development, the KMC’s director of land addressed a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, alleging attempts to legitimize occupation and construction on government and Hill Park land through fraudulent documents and NOCs. He urged prompt police action to halt these illegal activities.
Meanwhile, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab held a press conference to reaffirm that Hill Park remains the exclusive property of KMC. He emphasized that not a single inch of the park’s land has been transferred or allocated to any individual or entity, dismissing rumors of land giveaways.
