The Punjab government has introduced a penalty of Rs50,000 for individuals caught disposing of sacrificial animal remains in streets and residential areas during Eidul Azha. This measure is part of a comprehensive cleanliness drive planned across urban centers to maintain sanitation during the festive period.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz endorsed the fine as a key element of a wider sanitation and monitoring strategy aimed at curbing unlawful dumping of animal waste during the Eid holidays. To support enforcement, the provincial administration has formed vigilance squads tasked with overseeing sensitive locations and ensuring compliance with disposal regulations.

In a video conference focused on Eidul Adha cleanliness preparations, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for a robust public awareness campaign. She urged citizens to responsibly manage animal waste and refrain from discarding remains in streets, drains, or open areas.

Authorities have planned special cleaning operations targeting drains, canals, and other critical sites. The sanitation efforts extend to private housing societies, railway colonies, and cantonment zones, reflecting a province-wide approach. Additionally, the chief minister directed focused cleaning of 2,687 commercial markets, recognizing the surge in waste generation during Eid.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted the importance of coordinated government action, stating, “We must function as a unified government unit for cleanliness during Eidul Azha.” She also announced that a system of incentives and penalties would be implemented to ensure accountability and performance.

Under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, cleanliness teams will conduct door-to-door collection of animal remains. To facilitate proper disposal, biodegradable bags will be distributed in both commercial and residential areas.

Officials revealed that cleaning activities will intensify during the final hours of Chand Raat, focusing on major commercial hubs, highways, and busy intersections to guarantee timely clearance before Eid prayers and sacrifices.

Provincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq and Local Government Secretary Mian Shakeel Ahmed provided detailed briefings on the operational plan during the meeting.

Vigilance teams will maintain strict oversight throughout the Eid period, imposing fines on those violating disposal regulations. These efforts aim to uphold sanitation standards across Punjab’s cities and towns during the festive season.
