Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a telephone discussion with the Prime Minister of Qatar to address the escalating situation in the Middle East. The conversation centered on Pakistan’s ongoing peace initiatives aimed at stabilizing the region.

During the call, Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for Qatar’s robust support of Pakistan’s peace efforts. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, highlighting the importance of dialogue in reducing tensions related to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Both leaders underscored the necessity of upholding the ceasefire and advocated for continuous international collaboration to promote peace and stability across the region. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif extended his warm regards to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In a significant development, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced the establishment of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), a new entity tasked with overseeing operations in the Strait of Hormuz. The PGSA will be responsible for managing transit and navigation through this critical waterway and providing real-time updates on its status and related developments.

This announcement was disseminated via the council’s official X account as well as the Revolutionary Guards’ navy account, amid rising tensions throughout the Gulf region. The PGSA declared that any vessel passing through the Strait without prior authorization would be deemed “illegal.” Furthermore, navigation within the designated boundaries will require full coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and relevant authorities.
