Aleema Khan Files Petition Against Imran Khan’s Solitary Confinement in IHC

Aleema Khan has submitted a writ petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the alleged solitary confinement of her brother, former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The petition, filed through Barristers Salman Safdar and Salman Akram Raja, contends that the solitary confinement lacks any judicial authorization and is unlawful.

Imran Khan has been held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail for over 1,000 days. The petition emphasizes that no court has ever ordered his solitary confinement. It also alleges that his legal team is being obstructed from meeting him for consultations and signing power of attorney documents.

In a significant development, Aleema Khan has urged the high court to declare the solitary confinement and incommunicado detention illegal and without lawful authority. The petition argues that these measures violate Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which protect personal liberty and dignity.

Concerns about Imran Khan’s alleged solitary confinement, worsening health, and limited access to proper facilities have been repeatedly voiced by his sisters and PTI leaders. However, these claims have been denied by the federal government and the administration of Adiala jail. Notably, family members and party officials have also expressed worry about the health of both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra, especially after recent eye surgeries.

They have persistently demanded their transfer to a hospital for comprehensive medical care and diagnostic tests under the supervision of doctors and family members, along with improved access to relatives. Imran Khan, aged 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 following convictions that he and his party describe as politically motivated.

Since his removal from office in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote, Khan has faced multiple legal challenges, including allegations related to state gifts and an unlawful marriage case. While some convictions have been overturned or suspended, several appeals are still pending in higher courts. Khan continues to deny all accusations against him.
