The second paper of the AS-level mathematics exam under Cambridge International Education (CIE) was leaked, with education officials confirming the breach on Tuesday. Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), acknowledged the incident and stated that they are awaiting a formal and comprehensive response from Cambridge.
Notably, Cambridge has also initially verified the leak, expressing regret that such breaches continue to occur. Dr Mallah described the recurring leaks of Cambridge examination papers as unfortunate, highlighting the examination body’s ongoing inability to prevent these incidents.
The leak reportedly took place on Monday, with multiple students revealing that the mathematics paper (9709/5), which was scheduled to begin at 2 pm, had already circulated on social media before the exam commenced.
In a significant development, Cambridge had previously invalidated the AS-level mathematics paper (9709/12) following a separate leak. This earlier paper, conducted on April 29 in Administrative Zones 3 and 4, was distributed without authorization, leading officials to declare it unusable for grading purposes.
Consequently, Cambridge confirmed that candidates affected by the earlier leak would be required to retake the exam. The replacement paper is set for June 9, as per the official Cambridge examination timetable.
