Punjab Declares Three-Month Summer Vacation for Schools Starting May 22

The Punjab government has declared a three-month summer vacation for all schools in the province, effective from May 22 until August 23. Schools are scheduled to resume classes on August 24 following the extended break.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the holiday schedule through statements on social media platforms, including X and Facebook, formalizing the annual summer recess for both public and private educational institutions across Punjab.

Earlier, authorities had advised schools to modify their operating hours or consider early closures due to an intense heatwave impacting various parts of the country. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had issued guidelines recommending adjustments in school timings or the initiation of early summer holidays if extreme temperatures continued.

The PDMA’s advisory also emphasized the suspension of outdoor sports and activities, ensuring access to clean drinking water, and maintaining proper ventilation along with functional fans and cooling systems within classrooms. Additionally, students were encouraged to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to cope with the heatwave.

Officials highlighted that the decision to extend the summer vacation reflects ongoing weather conditions and prioritizes the health and safety of students and school staff by minimizing their exposure to prolonged high temperatures.
