Sindh Faces Severe Heatwave as Karachi Endures Rising Temperatures

Sindh is preparing for a significant heatwave in the coming days, with inland areas expected to reach temperatures as high as 49 degrees Celsius, the Pakistan Meteorological Department announced on Saturday.

The Met Office’s early warning center has issued a heat alert for Karachi and its neighboring regions, predicting hot and humid weather in the port city over the next three days. Temperatures in Karachi are forecasted to stay between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, accompanied by humidity levels ranging from 55 to 65 percent during daylight hours.

Officials noted that sea breezes will continue to offer some relief, although occasional westerly winds may influence the local weather conditions. The advisory highlighted that most parts of Sindh will experience hot to very hot and dry weather through May 11, with a severe heatwave expected to persist in central and northern districts.

Districts such as Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur are predicted to face extreme daytime temperatures between 47 and 49 degrees Celsius. The Met Office urged residents—especially children, women, and the elderly—to take necessary precautions, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and increase fluid intake to prevent heat-related health issues.

Meteorologists explained that the current heatwave is part of a larger seasonal trend impacting southern Pakistan, as summer temperatures continue to rise across the region.
